print happy

Although the sleeves are my favorite part of this vintage dress (after the print anyways) I knew I'd be dying of heat wearing it out for happy hour with my girlfriend...

The solution:
I pulled the dress down so it was like a tube, with the sleeves underneath my arms. Then I twisted both sleeves and tied them together at the nape of my neck to make it a halter dress.

The twisting completely covered up the fact that my "straps" were actually sleeves!

I think this would work with most anything long sleeved, as long as the fabric has some stretch to it.

Give it a try yourself. I'd love to see pictures!

fab 5

I'm in love. I can so picture myself wearing something these Sandro bronze wedge sneakers ($565, Stylebop) this Fall layered up with chunky socks and tights!

It's all about the little details... My belt didn't have enough holes in it to cinch in the waist so I tied it. The knot made my entire outfit much more interesting.

Anna Wintour & Blake Lively at Fashion's Night Out NYC last night. Gorgeous!

Fashion BAND-AIDS. It's really bad when your band-aids are so cute that you almost want an excuse to be "hurt"...

When I was visiting the Olympic Game Farm last week I couldn't help but love this zebras print. It made sense to me why animals can be so inspiring on a fashion level.

Have a fab weekend everybody!

bouquet

Two Saturdays ago I had the lovely opportunity to attend my friends Ally & Scott's wedding reception out at the gorgeous Bell Victorian Garden.

It was a beautiful night filled with dancing, sweets, laughter, romance, sparklers and champagne.

Did I mention, I caught the bouquet?

Later into the night I started getting chilly so I quickly turned my silk scarf (above picture) into a make-shift kimono jacket. It's so easy to do yourself and looks effortlessly chic!

Here's How To Make Your Own Kimono Jacket:

Take a large square scarf. I usually use my Johnny Was silk scarves, but any will do.

 Take two corners

 and...

tie them into a knot, close to the ends.

 Repeat with other side.

Now, essentially your scarf should look like so.

This is a view from the "back". Just slip your arms through both of the holes and

easily & fashionably get rid of an evening chill.

You can also match the two holes together and stick your head through them for an original, fun take on a scarf!

Hope this inspires you to play with your scarves!

Ciao Summer

As Summer is coming to a close, and Fall (and all of it's lovely fashion splendor) is making it's way into our lives, I feel I must bid adieu to the Summer of Fun (lots and lots of fun)!

These pictures are of outfits that I j'adored over the Summer, but that just didn't make it onto the blog... until now!

Ciao Summer (and sandal weather)!

Retro Tourist

I wanted my Seattle outfit to be Americana/retro/kitschy with a touristy feel, sooooo I funked up my vintage navy and white plaid skirt by pairing it with a red bandanna print halter top.

The key to mixing prints is making sure they share at least one color or tone between the two (or three, or four depending on how fashionably confident you feel) prints. These prints worked so well together because they both have a little white in them.

The trip was short, but as you can see my friend James and I filled so much into that day. Many fab memories were made!
